  1. Use prescribed fire: effect on understory plants

A replicated, controlled study in 1995-1998 in temperate mixed forest in Kentucky, USA (Kuddes-Fischer & Arthur 2002) found no effect of prescribed fire on understory plant species richness. The number of species was similar in burned (32/25 m2) and unburned plots (26/25 m2). Data were collected in 1998 in 6-8 replicates of burned (prescribed burned in 1995) and control (unburned) plots (25 m2) at each of three sites.
