Introduction

As well as collating documented evidence for the effectiveness of actions, we produce evidence-based guidance, based on collated evidence and in consultation with stakeholders across the globe to incorporate their experience and ensure it meet the needs of target users.

Evidence-based guidance follows a set of principles that we have developed in collaboration with practitioners to ensure that sufficient, relevant and up-to-date evidence is transparently incorporated into conservation guidance, to ensure effective decisions are made.

The guidance documents are aimed at practitioners and policy planners who are responsible for overseeing/managing/restoring habitats, and/or the species which depend upon them. They are scientifically rigorous, evidence-based and practically applicable; they aim to support practitioners and decision-makers to effectively plan, design, implement and evaluate restoration projects at their own sites, using best practices.

Conservation Guidance Series

These guidance documents do not provide strict protocols that must be followed or detailed practical instructions about how to implement interventions or specific techniques. Rather, they highlight interventions and restoration techniques that have been demonstrated to be
effective in at least some situations.

Each collated document is a collection of smaller stand-alone pieces of guidance, each focusing on a different conservation action. They can therefore be used singularly, or as a collection, depending on the management needs of the user.
